October 2009 Archives

Hello!

I am amazed at how fast this semester is going!  If you thought high school went by fast, college is going at the speed of light!  It is already late October and we are quickly approaching November.  We are now at the advising period for spring semester.  Every student must meet with their advisor before they are able to pick classes for next semester.  I can’t wait to pick classes next semester.  No more Friday afternoon lab!

I’m still trying to decide what to be for Halloween.  I’m leaning towards being Brett Favre because apparently, I look like him.  (I don’t see it, but all my friends somehow see it, so I’ll just go with it)  This is going to be the first year in a long time I won’t be passing out candy for trick-or-treaters.  It’s going to be different being on campus for Halloween, but it will be fun!

The UML hockey team had a great weekend.  They defeated Colgate 5-3 on Friday and defeated Northeastern 3-1 on Saturday. I have some high school friends who go to Northeastern, so it’s good to have some bragging rights too.  I’m a huge hockey fan so I’m glad I decided to go to a hockey university. Going to the games are really fun and me and my friends are considering trying to road trip to some of the away games too!  I can’t wait for Friday when we play BU. Go Riverhawks!

Hope you all have a safe and fun Halloween!  Talk to you all soon!

                Hello again!

Unfortunately, I finally got sick.  This is the first time I’ve been sick so far this semester.  Some people have already been sick three times, so I guess I have been pretty lucky.  One thing I love about UMass Lowell is its location.  I live on campus, but my house is only 10 minutes away from campus.   Last Friday I felt awful, but since I live so close to school, I was able to go home for the weekend with no problems.  If I went to a university far away, I definitely would not have been able to go home.  I am feeling a lot better now though, which is good since I had a Biology exam today.

Ultimate Frisbee is winding down for the semester.  There is one week left, but luckily we do play during the spring semester too.  Hopefully we’ll be able to have some pick-up games during November if it’s not too cold.  Since Ultimate Frisbee is ending, me and some other friends decided to start an intramural indoor soccer team, which actually starts on Monday.  As you can probably tell, I like to be constantly doing something.  Plus my grades are always better if I am always busy.

Let’s just hope this weekend is better than last weekend!  Talk to you soon!

Mid-October Update

            Hello readers!

The campus has been pretty quiet recently.  It is probably due to Columbus Day weekend, midterms, the cooling weather, or even all three.  Luckily, I have no midterms this semester! (But, unfortunately, I still had a couple exams but they weren’t cumulative)  The workload doesn’t ruin the college experience!

I’m still playing ultimate Frisbee, although it is pretty hard trying to throw and catch a Frisbee in the wind and when your hands are numb from the cold, but it is still awesome.  I’ve met a lot of friends through this club and it is highly recommended you join a club and get involved.  Me and some friends may start an indoor soccer intramural team for the late fall and winter too.  I miss playing soccer.  I played for basically my entire life but stopped playing junior year in high school.  It would be great to start playing again!  And I’ve even began running again too.  I have only ran a couple times since I’ve moved on campus in August, but I have ran maybe 4 of the last 6 days so I’m getting back into the groove!  Nothing feels better than a long distance run at 6:30 in the morning along the Merrimack River!

College life is a blast and everyone that says college is completely different than high school is correct, although I think I have adjusted pretty well so far.  That’s all I have to say for now.  Talk to you soon!

                Hello again!

There is a lot going on around campus right now.  Columbus Day weekend is this weekend so everybody is making plans to go home and visit old friends, but unfortunately, teachers aren’t letting up the workload.  I’m really looking forward to the three day weekend, although I really don’t have any plans for it yet.  The weekend of October 24/25 is Homecoming/Family Weekend here at UML.  There will be activities and food so it will be a good time.  Plus UML hockey is having their home opener that weekend so I’m really looking forward to that!  On November 1 (Did I really just mention November? Wow this semester is going by fast!), UML will be hosting their open house.  I vividly remember going last year and I learned a lot.  It was on that day I realized I wanted to come here, and I do not regret it!  While walking around campus, if you see me and recognize me do not be afraid to come up to me to say hi.  Also, you can ask anybody around campus questions.  Everybody will happily answer your questions or gladly give you directions.  I’ve been here a month and I still do not know my way perfectly around the city, but I’m learning.  (Slowly, but I’m learning)  That’s just a little summary of what’s going on around campus in the next couple weeks.

Well, that’s all for now.  October will be a very busy month and it will go by fast, but November is coming and that just means one thing: Thanksgiving.  But that might be for a different time.  Talk to you soon!
