On Friday the 28th, I had the pleasure of volunteering with ODK for the Safe Trick or Treat At the South Campus, in Sheehy and Concordia. I was introduced of the event by the honor group ODK, which I joined recently. I volunteered thinking it will be a good experience, and it was a requirement. Basically, kids from the community come to the building to have a safe and fun trick or treat experience. The students prepared games and activities for the kids, and even handed out candy in their dorm rooms. And let me tell ya, boy was I glad I went.
When I entered the building, I just felt the Halloween atmosphere right away. Everyone that was volunteering was in the spirit of helping out for this great event. It rubbed off on me as well so I was eager to see the kids come.
I was assigned the role of tour guide, and my job was to lead a group of all the kids and their families into the respective dorm rooms for trick or treating. I met a great bunch of kids and it reminded of me of my younger days eager for candy (I'm still eager for candy of course).
The tour was a bit of work though, as the narrow halls certainly didn't help with a lot of kids in there. I led them through Sheehy and Concordia to the rooms and trust me when I say this, every single person handing out candy seemed excited and happy to see the kids in their costumes. It was so refreshing.
At the end of the tour, they all said thanked me for my efforts, and I could not have asked for anything better. The thankfulness was all I needed. It was a great experience.
Before heading out, I took some pictures, talked with some kids/families, and helped out with a couple of other things. I had to go home, but I definitely wanted to stay a bit longer!
Overall, it was such a fun experience, I want to do it again next year for sure. I hope you all come out as well next year. Here are some of the pictures I took and posted on Twitter: Pictures
That's it for today! I'll blog next week!
Recently I have interviewed a student living on Fox Hall to discuss a problem that he/she had with the dining hall food services on East. I tried to dig in to the problem briefly but precisely. It came as a surprising note to me because I try the East dining hall every now and then, and didn't have a problem. For those that actually live on campus though, it was a different story. I hope you guys enjoy the interview. I will be doing more of these student-oriented blogs from now on!
What is the major problem with the food in the dining hall?
Are you satisfied with the taste regardless of the selection? In other words, is the lack of choices making good food taste bad since you repeat eating it so much?
The taste is alright and hasn't really changed much as the year went on. I think that the lack of choices is affecting the taste of the food. I have started to like the sandwich station a lot less and have tried to move on to the hot dishes, which they only have during certain times.
How were the staff with distribution? Do you have to wait a long time to get your food on most occasions?
Not on most occasions but few. It's understandable most of the time. The portions are usually pretty big too.
If you have a suggestion to the dining hall, what would it be?
My suggestion is for there to be more selection for the hot dishes and just in general. I think they should always try to have the hot plates running in order for there to be more food to choose from.
Do you feel like you are getting what you paid for overall in terms of food/dining hall?
Overall, I dont think I am. There are times that I will want to go after getting out of class and there will be nothing to choose from. I have to resort to eating a moist sandwich or fries and a hot dog.
So that was it. I thank the anonymous student for their time. Do you guys agree with what he/she said?
So today, I am here to update and rant about things. I love telling friends and strangers about what's going on in school, because I find it fascinating. Even if you are not interested in this kind of update generally, I'm sure you can find something useful.
The school has recently changed its website layout! Did you guys have a chance to check it out? Feel free to navigate by going on the main link here, or better yet, check out my student profile page here! I thought the new layout is much neater and organized. What do you guys think?
I've been going to Southwick regularly and I've taken a trip to the bathroom there the other week. It is a single use bathroom and it is usually in good shape. Now when I went into this particular bathroom, I saw this bathroom in a pretty bad state. It wasn't graffiti or anything, but it was just a bunch of unused toilet paper lying around in the bathroom. I picked up some pieces then though to myself that I should take a picture of it, which is shown here:
By the way, my radio show is finally back up in the air on 91.5 FM, Tuesdays 2-4pm! You can stream the show on this link here. The show covers recent news and sports. We play great music as the commercials per se, and we have a lot of fun doing it. We love it when callers call in, so please don't hesitate when I read out the number to call!
That's it for today! I will talk to you all next week. Until then, good luck on all your academics!
